Kit: Bristol Beaufort Mk I ‘Torpedo bomber’ Scale: 1:72

Kit type: Injection moulded Decal options: (two) No. 217 Sqn, RAF Coastal Command, St Ival, autumn 1941; No. 22 Sqn, RAF Coastal Command, St Ival, April 1941 UK price: £15.99 Website: www. mpm. cz

Enthusiasts of RAF aircraft waited a long time for a Beaufort kit; as far as I am aware the only kit previously produced of this aircraft in 1:72 scale was in the early 1970s, with all subsequent efforts being based on this. That being so, this new kit could not be more welcome, and for those who shy away from vacform canopies, all the transparencies in this kit are injection moulded. The kit represents an early Mk I with the Daimler turret (the Bristol turret is also supplied, presumably for a later issue). The kit allows the modeller to build one of two versions (with or without the ventral nose turret); I elected to produce the aircraft without this turret.

At this stage you need to fit porthole transparencies in both halves of the fuselage and slot the recess part into the bomb bay to facilitate fitting the torpedo. The turret has to be fitted into the fuselage before it is joined. This is something I always try to avoid, although in
